Your Role as a Control Room Operator

Company: Constellation Energy
Location: Washington, D.C.
Pay: $94,500 – $108,150 per year ($45.43 – $52.00 per hour)
Job Type: Full-Time

You will be the key person responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our cogeneration plant during your shift. You will monitor and control complex systems including combustion turbines and steam generators to ensure reliable power production. Your focus on safety and procedure will be essential to our mission.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate the plant control system and all steam generating equipment.
  • Watch over gas turbine control panels to ensure everything is running correctly.
  • Perform required water chemistry analysis and make adjustments to maintain strict control limits.
  • Operate the plant by following all health, safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and record any unusual instrument readings or equipment performance.
  • Keep detailed records in the control room logbook and lockout/tagout log.
  • Perform regular equipment inspections to find malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
  • Correct safety hazards and support maintenance activities to ensure plant reliability.
  • Assist with minor maintenance, repairs and equipment testing.
  • Help train new team members and maintain the cleanliness of plant areas.

Your Schedule and Work Environment

This position is based at our power plant in Washington, D.C. You will work 12-hour shifts. Your schedule will include a rotation of days, nights, weekends and holidays to support 24/7 plant operations including during maintenance or emergency situations.

What You Will Need to Succeed

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • A current DC Stationary Engineer’s License (3rd Class or higher).
  • At least 5 years of experience in power plant control room operations.
  • Strong mechanical skills and basic knowledge of steam plants and combustion turbines.
  • The ability to read, write and speak English fluently for safety and procedures.
  • Strong math skills for calculations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Proven judgment and decision-making skills to follow complex instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A DC Stationary Engineer’s License (1st Class).
